THE DAY OF THE LORD IS SURE TO COME

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,
but let us be alert and self-controlled”. 1 Thessalonians 5:6(NIV)

We are told that the day of the lord will come unexpectedly. It is likened to the coming of a thief at
night. We should not be overly bothered about the exact timing of Jesus’ return but we should take Paul’s advice; be sober, be vigilant (and exhibit self control at all times).

As children of the light, we have been told to be prepared for that day. Being prepared means cultivating and living a lifestyle that is approved by God. The essential ingredients of this lifestyle include; being assured of your salvation (its privileges and responsibilities), having faith without which we cannot please God (Hebrews11:6) and walking in love at all times.

We are told in vs.10 that Christ died for us thus reconciling us back to God as a result of which we will live with him forever whether we are dead or alive at the time of his return. If we live this kingdom lifestyle, though we do not know the exact time of his return, we still won’t be surprised when he comes (vs.4) for we daily live in the light being sober and alert.

PRAYER: Father, help me to be alert and sober at all times as I await your return.

FAITH BYTE: I believe in the Lord and walk in his ways at all times, therefore I am prepared for the days of his coming.
