THE PRINCIPAL THING

Scripture: Proverbs 4:1-7

“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline
from the words of my mouth.” Proverbs 4:5 (KJV)

Few words contrast so sharply as wisdom and foolishness and everyone wants to be regarded as a wise man or woman. However, what most people consider as wisdom is merely worldly craftiness.

People believe that understanding how the world operates, how to make gains in life, how to outwit and outsmart opponents, how to make good economic and political judgment is what makes one wise.
So, everytime someone succeeds in achieving any of these feats, the `world system concludes that they must be wise. The compelling desire to always win has turned the world into an open battlefield with everyone fighting to best others by hook or crook. Surely, it is a good thing to win in life’s struggles but it counts as nothing to God if we do not have wisdom.

The bible graphically tells us, in Proverbs chapter 4, about the benefits of listening to instructions and applying God’s word. It is the application of God’s word that God refers to as wisdom. It is this wisdom that will prosper us. It is this wisdom that will promote us, project us and bring us honour. It will also preserve and elongate our lives. God told Joshua to make His word the guiding principles of his leadership and he would have “good success” (Joshua 1:8). That instruction still applies to every believer today. Wisdom, therefore, is to know God, keep his commandments and apply his word daily in all aspects of our lives.

PRAYER: Lord, I pray for grace to keep your word in my heart always; to apply your word in my daily life in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I yield my life completely to God. I am motivated and passionate about His word.
