THE HARD WORK OF WAITING

Scripture: Matthew 20:1-16

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous – Yes,
wait patiently for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14 (NLT)

The life of an unskilled labourer usually involves coming out early in the morning to a spot where he joins other labourers like himself waiting to be chosen by various foremen. By 6 a.m., the labourers are all assembled, and by 12 noon everyone is gone. Those chosen, get to earn some money that day. The rest leave hoping for better luck the next day.

Can you imagine any labourer waiting at that spot till 5pm in the evening, hoping to get hired? They are waiting because they just cannot go home empty handed. They are waiting because they cannot afford to see their kids go hungry 2 nights in a row. It is hard work to wait, especially when all hope seems lost. To the world, the unengaged labourers were idle, but to Jesus, they were hard at work, waiting. That is why the householder paid them a full day's wage (v10-13). In the Kingdom of God, patience is a virtue.

Are you presently waiting and hoping on God for that breakthrough He promised? Does all hope seem lost? Continue to wait on the Lord in prayers and thanksgiving. Yes, Jesus sees your secret pains and heartaches, but through it all, wait on the Lord. He will come to you who appears to be last, because you are waiting on Him, and make you first. (v14-15). He will pay you a full salary plus allowances for your hard work of waiting.

PRAYER: Lord, let me not be put to shame for I put my trust in you and wait on you for my salvation in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I wait on the Lord and I trust him to reward my hard work of waiting.
