SUBMIT TO MENTORSHIP

Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:1-10

“Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the
prophesies once made about you, so that by following them you
may fight the good fight” 1 Timothy 1:18 (NIV)

In 1Samuel 3:4-8, the Lord called Samuel three times and on each occasion he ran to Eli his mentor as that was the voice he was accustomed to from when he entered ministry. Eli, perceiving that God was calling the boy Samuel, instructed him on what to do so he could commune with Jehovah.

Samuel had been mentored to the point that he could identify Eli’s voice quickly even from his sleep. That was how intense the upbringing was and Eli was able (as a true mentor) to give the instructions that brought the young boy to the next level in keeping with the prophecies once made about him.

From this brief account, we learn that our submission to mentorship will usher us into our next level in the things of God and even while in a new level, you still need the voice of your mentor. Mentors on their part must be sensitive enough to perceive the next move of God in the life and ministry of the
people growing under them. Have you realized that when God spoke to Samuel for the first time, he needed additional direction from his mentor to properly discern it? Take your spiritual leader seriously; God will often speak through him to you.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to submit to mentorship as long as it takes, for my growth in life and ministry in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I submit to spiritual authority. I am sensitive to receive divine direction for my
blessing through my spiritual leader.
