SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Scripture: Acts 2:1-12

“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself.”
1 Corinthians 4:14a (KJV)

Speaking in tongues was the first spiritual gift that the apostles manifested after the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. This pattern continues throughout the Book of Acts. Speaking in tongues, being the first vital spiritual gift to be given to believers after the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, is a very important gift that every Christian must yearn for, and cherish.

You edify yourself whenever you speak in tongues.
Edification means to improve oneself spiritually, physically, morally or intellectually. The Holy Spirit enables your spirit to relate unhindered with God, who is a Spirit, when you speak in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:2). When you speak in tongues, you energize your spirit and build up your faith (Jude 1:20). Remember, without faith, it is impossible to please God. When you speak in tongues, your life becomes full of God’s wonders which you declare.

Yielding your tongue to the Holy Spirit is a big step towards being able to fully yield all your members to God; for if you can consistently yield your tongue via speaking in tongues, you can
yield any member of your body to God and live a sin free, victorious Christian life (James 3:2).

PRAYER: Lord, edify my spirit and fill me up with Your power as I speak in tongues, in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: My spirit man and my faith is built up as I regularly speak in tongues.
