ENEMIES WITHIN

Scripture: Acts 23:12-35

“A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.”
Mathew 10:36 (NIV)

Sometimes, the stiffest oppositions we face come from people we expect to support us. They come from religious people rather than pagans, from family members rather than outsiders, from believers rather than unbelievers. Paul’s opposition came from the Jewish leaders; people who fasted and prayed religiously to show their zeal and dedication to God. Their actions should not stop you.

The pagan soldier, in our text, used his authority and the troops at his disposal to protect Paul to ensure he received a fair trial. He showed far more kindness to Paul than his own kinsmen did. The Roman commander, in his letter to the Governor, declared Paul’s innocence (v29). If Paul’s enemies had a valid case against him, they would not have had to resort to violence.

Do not be surprised when your strongest critics and opponents are those supposedly close to you. It was the case with Joseph; his brothers were so envious of his ability and future, they sold him into slavery. They failed to realize that God does not leave or abandon the man he has blessed. Even when people mistreat you under the guise of corporate policies, systems and machinery, God will uncover their selfish act and vindicate you. Remain undeterred, stay your course because your path will only shine brighter (Proverbs 4:18).

PRAYER: Lord, uncover and expose every plot the enemy has designed against me and bring about their shame in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: My path shines brighter each day because no grievous plot of the enemy will hinder me from fulfilling God’s plan for my life.
