WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

Scripture: II Kings 4:1-7

‘‘A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him
before great men.’’ Proverbs 18:16 (KJV)

No one is born empty. Not even the so called handicapped or challenged ones among us. God has multiple talents and gifts deposited in each and every one of us, to help us enjoy life, impart others and fulfil our purpose. There is therefore, no excuse for anyone to live an empty life, for God has given us all that pertains to life and godliness (II Peter 1:3).

The story of the widow and her encounter with Prophet Elisha is a practical demonstration of how a man’s gift can make ways for him. Had not Elisha opened the widow’s eyes to see that her jar of oil can be put to use to her advantage, she and her household would have ended up in penury. Do you know the gifts that God has put inside of you? Have you been able to put it to good use to your advantage, and to the glory of God?

Your gift lays in your passion, and that which you do with great ease and joy. For your gift to make way for you, you have to sharpen it through constant practice. You also have to work to discover the best means to express it, and to whom. Remember that though you may have been born with it, the gift in you is not for you alone. You must therefore, strive to use your gift in service to man and to the glory of God.
