DON’T LET ANGER

Scripture: Ephesians 4:25-27

‘‘And don’t sin by letting anger control you.
Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry.’’
Ephesians 4:26 (NLT)

Feedback: Ponder on how sharing the love of Christ to others makes you feel.

Have you noticed that the longer you contemplate on the hurt done to you, the angrier you get? Have you also noticed that you have no inner peace, and that you lack focus and coordination when you are angry? Anger is a sin that can put you in spiritual jeopardy, as well as constitute a lot of discomfort to you and everyone else around you. Though natural and normal, anger becomes a sin when it lingers for too long or is nurtured into harmful or malicious acts. Don’t be a fool; resist anger and its evil consequences (Ecclesiastics 7:9).

Don’t allow the fear of being called weak or foolish make you want to always show your wrath to every provocation. Rather, manifest your inner strength; be slow to anger and have a firm control of your spirit (Proverbs 16:32). Our opening scripture teaches that we see each other as members of one body. This feeling of oneness can kill our desire to allow anger rule us, and consequently discourage the devil from having access to our lives.

As a believer, you have all it takes to live above all sins; even anger. When offence comes, rather than contemplate and muse over it, peacefully resolve it with the offender. Before you act in anger, pause and think of the consequences. Learn to understand other people’s weakness, and give them benefits of doubt; for not all offences are intended. Practice forgiveness and it will become your default habit or reaction, even in the face of extreme vexation. Ask the Holy Spirit to tame you, if you have anger issues.

Reflection: What can I do to always forgive those who offend me?

PRAYER: My Father, teach me to avoid anger and offences in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I have firm control of my spirit; I am not controlled by wrath.

This Week Walk of Faith: This week, write down three reasons why you must forgive those who offend you and read them daily.
