OFFENCES

Scripture: Luke 17:1-10

‘‘Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles,
nor to the church of God:’’ I Corinthians 10:32 (KJV)

If is one thing that constitutes the biggest obstacle to peaceful and harmonious living, it is offence. Offence is any act capable of breeding anger, bitterness, pain or strife in the heart of an individual towards his fellowman. While not every offence is intended, every wrongful, careless, and insensitive act can be interpreted as offensive and is liable to spark bitterness. This is why everyone must be sober in thoughts, words and actions, especially so as to guard against causing an offence.

Offences are such a serious sin that it can set a world on a downward path of curses and destruction (Matthew 18:7a). This is why we identify and avoid those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which we have learned (Romans 16:17). Don’t be an available tool for the enemy’s use; don’t constitute offence to anyone.

We are to do our best to live in peace with everyone. To avoid creating offense, you must be careful how you act, react, relate with and interact with everyone. Be sensitive to the needs, feelings and opinions of others. Always be ready to find a common ground of compromise in line with Godly living. Be quick to apologize, change, and where possible; make amends, if you find that anyone is offended with you. Finally, offense is alien where love abides, hence we ought all to give brotherly love, not offense, so we can live in peace and enjoy the blessings of God upon us.

PRAYER: I receive the grace to live in peace and harmony with everyone, in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I am a man of peace; I am not a source of offense.
