BREAKING BREAD

Scripture: Acts 2:42-46

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion
of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it
not the communion of the body of Christ? 1 Cor. 10:16(KJV).

Breaking bread is a term used to describe the Holy Communion instituted by Jesus at His final feast of Passover on earth (Matt. 26:26-28). The Communion is eating the body and drinking the blood of Jesus Christ. It is an act of faith and deep fellowship. The Holy Communion is an activity with powerful spiritual ramifications.

One way to understand the communion is that drinking the blood represents fellowship with the Holy Spirit and eating the body represents fellowship with Christ and the Church (His body). The life of all flesh in its blood (Lev. 17:11) and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Simply put, The Holy Spirit is the life of the Church, and we fellowship with both when we take the Communion. The blood is also called the cup of blessing because it is the cup of the new covenant (1Cor.11:25). As you drink it, all the blessings of the new covenant are renewed in your life.

In the scripture reading, we can observe that they did this steadfastly and daily from house to house. No wonder they experienced mighty miracles, no wonder they enjoyed such a deep fellowship with the Holy Spirit and one another. Every Christian is a priest unto God (Rev 1:6), this means you can administer the Holy Communion in your own home. Do it daily, reverentially, and with proper understanding (1 Cor 11:27-29).

PRAYER: Lord help me to be one body with you and the Church as I steadfastly partake of the Communion.

FAITH BYTE: I enjoy the blessings of the Holy Communion.
