Scripture: Exodus 1:1-14
“Because you know that the testing of your faith develops
perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may
be mature and complete, not lacking anything……” James 1: 3-4 (NIV)
In the field of entomology, we are told that the butterfly larva develops into the pupa which develops or metamorphoses into the adult butterfly.
A young child once saw a butterfly larva evolved into a pupa and was not moving (he had seen it moving in the larva stage), he concluded that it was confined and decided to help the butterfly become an adult so he can fly away.
He began to jab it and tore it open and saw that it has wings and threw it up to fly.
That butterfly smashed the ground and died. He ran to his father and said, “I tried to help the butterfly but it wouldn’t fly.” His father answered and said, “Son, you made a mistake in trying to help it; the butterfly needs to fight its way out of its cocoon to be able to fly.” The process of breaking that limit is part of strengthening the butterfly. That’s how its wings will develop. That’s how it will get ready to become an adult, but it has to stay in that pupa to evolve. Seize the opportunity in afflictions, trials and tests to grow up spiritually because it is meant to strengthen you.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be focused on becoming what you want me to be, even when afflictions come my way.
