CHOICEST VINE

Scripture: Isaiah 5:1-7

“What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done it” Isaiah 5:4

God laments over Israel. He uses the picture of a vineyard, planted and cultivated by God to describe his people. An excellent figure is also used to devote the care and attention which God bestows on his people.

He fenced it to protect it. Gathered out the stones to make it easily cultivatable, Built a tower about it to watch and defend it, made a wine press to extract choice wine and thus give it economic value.
Then wait in expectation for the vines to grow and bear grapes. To God’s dismay, they produced wild grapes. The word translated wild implies a poisonous herb, offensive in smell, showing how disgusted God is when we fail to produce good fruit after his investment into our lives.

God expects the best of his children for whom he sent His son to die. He poured out His spirit to help us and gave us His word to enlighten us. All of heaven backs us up. He is greatly offended when we fail to be our best for Him. Let us meet His expectation through our thinking, words and our lifestyle. Bear good fruits as His choicest vine.

PRAYER: We receive grace to live the kind of life that will please God.

FAITH BYTE: I will not disappoint God.
