OVERCOME SPIRITUAL SLUMBER

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

“According as it is written, God hath given them the
spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears
that they should not hear;) unto this day”. Rom.11:8(KJV)

Slumber is a condition of body and mind where your consciousness is temporarily suspended. Thus, spiritual slumber is a state where your spiritual senses are temporarily unresponsive to the Life of God. This picture is clear in the Scripture above; the spiritual eyes and ears though present, can’t pick up any information from the Lord.

This state occurs when a person is overcome by the pleasures of the world and gives in to the lusts of the flesh (Mark 4:17). It also occurs when a person gives up during a difficult time and decides to walk out on God or wallows in unforgiveness, envy, etc. (Mark 4:19). The spirit is starved of the life of God and darkness rules instead. Usually, a spirit of slumber also compounds the problem, making it difficult to come out of spiritual slumber.

Normally, to wake a person that’s in deep sleep requires a significant stimulus like a shout or push. If you have lost faith, love and hope in God, then you need to wake up by force. Recommit your life to Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness. Lift up the hands which hang down (Heb.12:12-13) and pray aggressively against the spirit of slumber. Resume regular attendance of prayer meetings, night vigils and bible studies to jump start your prayer life. It is time to wake up, the day of the Lord is at hand.

PRAYING: I rebuke every spirit of slumber assigned against my life and I recommit my life to Jesus Christ, in Jesus Name.

FAITH BYTE: I will not be found sleeping when I should be awake and active for God.
