Scripture: Acts 2:1-12
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself…”

Speaking in tongues was the first spiritual gift that the apostles manifested after the baptism of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. This pattern continues throughout the book of Acts, speaking in tongues being the first and vital spiritual gift given to believers after the baptism of the Holy Ghost. The question is why is it so important?
Firstly, when we speak in tongues, we edify ourselves. The word ‘edify’ means to improve one's self spiritually, physically, morally or intellectually. Speaking in tongues will do this for you. In addition, speaking in tongues is a way of ministering to God directly and perfectly because it is your spirit man that is praying. Also, God uses you to pray into manifestation, mysteries about your life, nation, loved ones, etc. (1 Cor. 14:2). When you pray in tongues, you energize your spirit and build up your faith
(Jude1:20) and without faith, it is impossible to please God. When you speak in tongues, your life will become full of God's wonders which you declare (vs 11).

Finally, yielding your tongue to the Holy Spirit is a big step towards being able to fully yield all of your members to God; for if you can consistently yield your tongue via speaking in tongues, you can
yield any member of your body to God and live a sin free, victorious Christian life(James 3:2).

PRAYING: Father, let my life be full of your wonderful works which I declare in other tongues, in Jesus Name
