FOLLOW GOD
Scripture: Matthew 10:32-39
“…No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 (KJV)
Sometimes, we get so busy with the issues and cares of this world that we lose sight of our purpose on earth. We are caught up with our daily activities and relationships that we relegate what is most important to the background. As a Christian, your first priority should be to follow God.
Following God comes with focus and dedication. Sometimes, it may not be convenient for many
because it could mean forsaking one or more things that are dear to the heart like family and friends. It could also mean going against your loved ones. However, this is what God expects from every believer (v35, 37). He does not expect you to trade your fellowship with him for the peace and love of your loved ones. Once you have set your mind on following God, there is no room for turning back else you are not fit for the kingdom. (Lk. 9:62)
Your life may not always be pleasing to the next person because you have decided to choose God above other things. What matters, however, is that God is pleased with you. When you have a clear understanding of where to place your focus, everything else in your life will be guided by this singular goal (Matt. 6:33). If you are always careful not to lose friends, family or opportunities over God, then you are not worthy of him (v38). Decide today to put aside every sentiment and put God first. Take up your cross and follow him for your life will be fulfilling destiny when you make the decision to lose it for Christ’s sake (v39).
PRAYER: Lord, help me to follow you whole heartedly without looking back so that I can be worthy to be called your child in Jesus name.
FAITH BYTE: My mind is set on following God. I will not trade him for anything.
