SHARPEN YOUR TALENT
Scripture: Judges 11:4-6
"I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. Psalms 89:19 (NIV)
God has given to everyone a measure of natural ability; a unique skill or ability that will enable you stand out in your world. Jephthah, despite being the son of a prostitute, was a mighty warrior. God had bestowed in him “strength”
. This special ability attracted people to him. With his ability, he turned a group of people who were described as worthless to a disciplined army. He enlisted, trained, captained and influenced these men until their exploits were heard and known all over the nation of Israel.
Jephthah’s leadership skills finally attracted the attention of the kingmakers of his day and they made him a judge over Israel. This was because he did not despise his gift but used and sharpened it. He did so first over his band of men and finally over a nation.
Talents are given but skill is acquired. You need to sharpen your talent until it becomes a skill unique to you. There is something in you which you are yet to discover or have not improved on. Whatever your talent is, do not despise or make light of it and do not give room to naysayers who would try to dissuade or ridicule you. Do what it takes to grow that talent into a life-changing tool. Keep using and improving your unique ability it will attract attention soon and become a blessing to many.
