PRAY FOR OTHERS

Scripture: I Timothy 2:1-8

“Brethren, pray for us.” I Thessalonians 5:25 (KJV)

Christians now pray more for themselves than others. Even when the Holy Spirit lays a burden in their hearts to pray for someone, or opens their eyes to the need for them to be selfless in prayers, they still overlook others; praying just for their needs. The power and authority made available in prayers are continually being sacrificed on the altar of selfishness. This leaves the church weak and almost ineffective in fulfilling God’s plans for the world.

Our opening scripture is very clear on how needful and important it is that we first intercede for others and ask that God help those in authority over us, for this is key to our living in peace. Praying for others is good and pleasing to God (I Timothy 2:1-3). One key we can take from this scripture is that praying for others is as much for our good as it is for those whom the prayers are said.

Remember, whatever you loose on earth is loosed in Heaven and whatever you bind on earth is bound in Heaven (Matthew 18:18). To limit your prayers to only yourself and your needs is to make light of your God-given authority over situations. Pray for your pastors, ministers, brethren and the entire body of Christ. Pray for the conversion of sinners. Pray for your leaders and country. Pray for your friends and even your enemies. As you pray for others, God will settle your issues.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to be fervent, effective and generous in my prayer life, in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE: I am a selfless believer. I intercede on behalf of my brothers and sisters in Christ.
