STAND YOUR GROUND

Scripture: Numbers 14:5-10
“Then Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29 (KJV)

What is usually your reaction when you face intense opposition? When you have a contrary view and everyone turns against you and your life is in danger? It is quite easy to go with the multitude and agree with them rather than be the lone voice of opposition. You could easily tell yourself ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God, a million people cannot be wrong’. This has led many to compromise on the truth because they could not bear to stand alone.

Joshua and Caleb faced the same situation. They had a different message amongst the 12 spies and they were the contrary voice in the midst of over 2 million people. Yet, they were steadfast in their message – we are able to take the land (Num. 13:30). Their stand put their life in danger but they did not compromise (v.10a). Their resolve was borne out of their devotion to God. They rent their clothes seeing the error of the people. They urged them to see the situation as God saw it. They were not ready to back down, they stood their ground.

Today, there is increasing pressure on Christians to back down on several issues. Christians are vilified, killed and thrown in jail. The church is being forced and arm twisted to compromise on several positions of God in the bible such as homosexuality, abortion, pre-marital sex and the likes. Governments and nations have withdrawn funding and support for those who will not tow their evil ways. Sadly, some denominations and congregation have indeed capitulated. But will you continue to stand your ground and be a lone voice in this evil generation? Do not compromise, God will show up and will reward you for your stand.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me remain faithful in the midst of this evil and perverse generation in Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH BYTE:
I am the light of the world. I will not hide under a bushel.
