Scripture: Joshua 9:3-21
“So the Israelites examined the food, but they did not consult God.” Joshua 9:14 (NLT)
Previously Joshua had made a presumptuous error which cost the lives of 36 men (Jos 7:1-5). Yet again, he makes the same error of not seeking divine counsel before acting. They fell into the Gibeonite trap because he did not consult God. They judged the issue using their physical senses and made a spiritual error. They went into treaty with the very people God ask them to destroy. This agreement was binding in heaven that God punished Israel when King Saul broke the treaty (2Sam 21:1).
Many have made mistakes and suffered loss simple because they did not ask God for counsel. A loan given out never to be repaid, failed business, a failed marriage, a missed opportunity, many of these are result of taking things at face value rather than seeking God. Samuel the prophet would have anointed the wrong king because he judged by outward appearance (1 Sam 16:6-7).
The bible says about Jesus that he will not judge by the physical but by the spirit of righteousness (Isa 11:3-4). Therefore you cannot afford to judge things based on outward appearances alone. Ask and trust the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions. Consult God in every issue as regards your family, children, work, business, church, ministry etc. God cares about every detail of your life and he will guide you to fulfillment.
PRAYER:
Lord, I refuse to judge matters by outward appearance but by your Spirit in Jesus name, Amen.
Lord, I refuse to judge matters by outward appearance but by your Spirit in Jesus name, Amen.
FAITH BYTE:
I have the Spirit of God and he leads me into all truth.
