GUARD YOUR HEART

Scripture: Proverbs 4:23-25

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

Feedback: Share how it feels encouraging others experiencing tough times.
A guard is one paid to protect assets from harm. When a guard is on duty, he is expected to be alert and watchful. Your heart seats your spirit and mind. It is the place where thoughts and feelings originate and are processed. The individual that can master this part of his life has truly achieved a great feat.

Why does the Bible give such importance to the heart? The scripture provides the answer; “out of it flow the issues of life (v.23).”  Your size in life spiritually, materially, financially and otherwise is as a result of your heart condition. Your heart will determine the substance of your life. This is why people are referred to as having “a good heart” or “a wicked heart”. The thoughts and feelings they have processed in their heart would always guide their physical actions here on earth.

Guarding your heart takes hard work and commitment. Just like the guard that has to be on a constant watch to prevent attacks, you have to be diligent in making sure that you keep your heart on the things that will keep you on the path that God desires for you. Set boundaries for yourself and others in your life. Do not let your emotions and desires push you in the wrong direction or making regretful decisions. Make a commitment today to keep a check on your heart and ensure it manifests the will of God at all times.

Reflection: What are those things that normally distract me from focusing on God's word?

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to be diligent in guarding my heart from the wiles of the enemy in Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH BYTE:
I guard my heart; therefore, my life manifests the mind of Christ.
