Scripture: I Samuel 6:3-6
“Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under earth” Exodus 20:4 (KJV)
In our society today, people face different challenges such as debilitating illness, business stagnation, financial crisis and family tussles. In a bid to find solution or resolve these issues, they go from place to place in search of someone or something that can quickly end the problems they face. The danger in this desperate search for answers is the possibility of getting entangled in acts that may displease God.
After God inflicted the Philistines with hemorrhoids due to their misdeed (1 Sam. 5:9), they were in so much pain they went to diviners to find out what they could do to bring an end to their illness. Their pain and desperation clouded their thought. Unfortunately, the diviners advised them to make golden images of their hemorrhoids and mice (v.4) as a trespass offering to appease the God of the Hebrews who they had wronged. Unknown to them, the God they were hoping to appease hated and still hates graven images (Ex. 20:4).
As a believer, whatever may cause you to seek the help of other gods or graven images, flee from it. You serve a jealous God who wants the best for you, therefore, he demands your total dependence on him and your utter surrender to him. No one can and should compete with God’s sovereignty over your life. He alone deserves your worship. He alone deserves all glory (Is. 42:8).
PRAYER:
Lord, I receive grace to seek you only no matter what I go through in life in Jesus name, Amen.
FAITH BYTE:
I will follow God totally and He alone will I serve.
