Scripture: 2 Samuel 1:1-12
“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44 (NASB)
In today’s society, people are always ready to repay evil with evil. When they are hurt, they seek to obtain revenge for the ill done to them. As Christians, we should learn and take as an example, the instructions of Jesus as regards dealing with human beings when we have been mistreated (Matt 5:44).
Although, Saul sought to kill David severally, God delivered David from his hand each time. A certain time came when the news of the death of Saul and Jonathan came to David; when David heard the news, he rent his clothes and wept in mourning. David never rejoiced over the death of Saul, even though Saul greatly persecuted him when he was alive.
Jesus on the cross, forgave and prayed for his persecutors. We are Christ-like, therefore, we should always exhibit Christ’s character traits in dealing with people. This grace should be extended even to those who persecute us. We are to pray to God, to forgive their sins and for their repentance rather than rejoice over any evil that befalls them. As a child of God, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to live in peace with all men (Heb.12:14).
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to love and pray for my persecutors in Jesus name, Amen.
Lord, help me to love and pray for my persecutors in Jesus name, Amen.
FAITH BYTE:
I am a love being; I demonstrate love in all that I do.
