VENGEANCE IS THE LORD’S

Scripture: Romans 12:17-21
“To me belongeth vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.” Deut 32:35 (KJV)

It is natural for the human flesh and mind to feel hurt when abused, insulted or betrayed. It is also natural to want to strike back at the one who has caused the hurt or simmer in bitterness. These responses make us human, however, God expects differently from a renewed mind.

God sees and feels every wrong done to us, yet he expects that we hand the issue over to him. He desires that we bring our hurt to him rather than take laws into our hands. Some of us expect God’s vengeance on our enemies to play out exactly as we wish, but often get disappointed when it does not happen like that. We, therefore decide to play God’s role. But God says “vengeance is mine”!

The bible admonishes us not to pay back evil for evil. (Rom. 12:17a). As much as possible, live at peace with everyone. Never take vengeance into your own hands. Stand back and let God do his will. Despite the way we feel, the bible admonishes that “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink”. When you do this, you heap burning coals of fire on his head. Do not become embittered and allow yourself to become overpowered by evil. Make efforts to always overpower evil with good. Sit back and let God do as only him can.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to overcome every hurt in my life with the good of your love in Jesus name.

FAITH BYTE:
I refuse to be caged by hurt because I know vengeance is the Lord’s.
