CHRIST PAID FOR ME

Scripture: Isaiah 53:1-65

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for
our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed."Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

The kind of suffering Jesus went through for us is almost unimaginable. Infact, Isaiah records in chapter 52:14 that there were many who were appalled at Him; His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness. Jesus' brutal execution by the Romans left him beyond recognition.
The Roman floggings were terribly brutal, the whip of braided leather thongs carrying metal balls, pieces of sharp bones and metals woven into them. This would inflict deep contusions and bruises which will break open into deep furrows and severe cuts into the flesh with repeated blows.

The third century historian, Eusebius described a Roman flogging by saying "the sufferer's veins were laid bare, the very muscles, sinews and bowels of the victim were open to exposure". This is what Jesus experienced for us. He was the substitute lamb, taking my place on the altar of judgment for my freedom. “He gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God ..." (Gal 1: 4). He did it all for me because he loves us.
