WORSHIP NO OTHER

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:12-16

“But the Lord, who brought you up out of the Land of Egypt
with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear,
and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.”
2 Kings 17:36 (KJV)

As long as we remain on earth, our purpose as humans is to worship God. This is what we are wired for. Even though there is a tendency or temptation to divert attention to our environment or what we see, we must not forget that God’s plan still remains that he seeks total worship from us to him (Exodus20:3).

In Luke chapter 4 verse 7, the devil, a being God created, asked Jesus to worship him. What an aberration. Worship is sacred, it has great import and it is meant only for the creator, who is God
Almighty. Worship glorifies God and gives him the reverence due to him. No one else and nothing else deserves this reverence. No one else deserves this total allegiance from us. No matter who they
are, what they have done for us or what they have achieved. God does not share his glory with anyone or item. We must remember this because when we idolize our relationships or possessions, we unknowingly give them a place of reverence in our lives. This is dangerous.

We are created solely to worship our maker and everything we do or achieve should be with this consciousness. If we live with this consciousness, then we will measure and reflect on our actions
daily. You cannot serve two masters. Money, success or relationships should not take God’s place in our lives. We must not keep our attention on position, possession and privilege before we glorify God. He gave them to us. No man or entity did. Therefore, we must give him the worship he deserves always (2 Kings 17:35).
