Scripture: Proverbs 19:1-8
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
It is quite common to see sycophants flocking around the rich and powerful, pledging allegiance to them and displaying a high level of loyalty simply because of what they stand to gain. Take away the riches and power and watch them disappear like shadows.
It would be dangerous for the recipient of such love and loyalty to be lured into thinking that these people will always be there.
The most important relationship man can have in his lifetime on earth is a relationship with God because that is the only one that can stand the test of time. When things are good and rosy, men will love you and do anything for you but the moment they stand to gain nothing, they will be gone as fast as they came. Do not be impressed by the number of people that claim to be your friends because their love is not guaranteed. Many will only be around for the good times.
Do not despise anyone because of their financial status because God requires us to show constant love to all. Real friends will love you and be there for you at all times. As a believer, cultivate relationship that will truly stand despite the situation in which you find yourself. Be a true friend yourself and God will bring friends that love you like Jonathan loved David.
PRAYER: Lord, do not let me be deceived and influenced by riches. Let my wealth and success bring good friends and things into my life in Jesus name.
FAITH BYTE: I am a true friend and God blesses me with genuine friends.
