FINANCIAL PRUDENCE

Scripture: Proverbs 21:17,26

“Whoever loves pleasure will become poor...” Proverbs 21:17 (NIV)

Managing finances is a struggle for a lot of people in general and even believers. The bible has provided a guide to mastering the art of financial discipline. It requires self-discipline and control of our desires.

Inability to manage one’s finances due to the pursuit of life’s luxuries leads to debt or poverty (Proverbs 21:17). Self-discipline is important when it comes to managing our finances. We must be able to identify our priorities and give them precedence when we allocate our finances. The application of wisdom in handling our finances results in surplus and abundance but it is folly to squander all we earn without provision for the future (Proverbs 21:20). We must develop and stick to a financial plan.

Have you been careless with your finances or made a habit of spending unwisely? Do you have difficulty saying no or holding back from buying every trinket you desire? Ask God for the grace to be prudent financially. Drawing up a budget and strictly adhering to it will help in your quest for self-discipline and financial prudence. Find a trusted person to hold you to account on your finances. You can also seek financial advice and guidance from experienced professionals. As you commit to being a good steward of your treasure, God will bless and expand your coast.
