A GOOD NAME

 Scripture: Ecclesiastes 7:1-12

"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold." Proverbs 22:1 (KJV)

The needs and desires that are synonymous with living on earth can sometimes push people into doing things that will give them a bad name. Even Christians sometimes are caught in this web of deceit that they have to live up to the standards of the world so they sometimes compromise their values to meet up.
They take bribes or falsify documents because of material gains, feeling that as long as they are not caught there is no problem.

No amount of riches can be compared to a good name. Men have had their good deeds and upright behavior speak for them decades later. Your good behavior and upright character can even lead someone to surrender their lives to Christ so as to emulate you. How can you preach to people and encourage them to be born again when they don’t see much difference between you and them?

Riches and the desire for it should not make you compromise your faith by acting in ways that are in contravention to God’s laws. You do not have to flow with the crowd. You are different so act different. If your whole office subscribes to taking bribes you should be the one to stand out. Even if it may look like they are all richer than you, the legacy you are creating for yourself will last even to the end of time and will ultimately speak for you in heaven.
